St Albans Road is a two-storey semi-detached house from the early twentieth century, located in the Dartmouth Park Conservation Area. The property had remained largely untouched for decades and required a full refurbishment. While the house was well-proportioned, its awkward layout resulted in small, dark rooms.

Our approach focused on reimagining the flow of the space without extending the property. We created a new, generous staircase connecting the two existing floors and the loft, incorporating a large void and roof light to bring daylight to all levels. The kitchen and dining areas were designed to maximise the full width of the property, with large windows and doors ensuring ample natural light. The goal was to simplify the layout, creating an open, light-filled environment within the existing floor plan.

A large dormer loft was added to accommodate a master bedroom suite and walk-in wardrobe. We also redesigned the bathrooms and fitted bespoke joinery throughout, creating order and calm amidst the chaos of family life.

Our approach to each project is tailored to the client’s brief. While built-in joinery is not always the right choice, it excels when maximising space and creating storage with clean lines. In this case, bespoke joinery helped bring clarity and function to the design.

The kitchen features a generous pantry behind an obscured glass door, allowing us to fit all kitchen requirements within the original footprint, with additional space for ovens, worktops, sinks, and storage.
