Project Update
The hemp has arrived on-site, and our entire studio has come together to help fill the timber frame with hemp insulation. We’re using two different hemp mixes: a denser wall mix and a lighter roof mix, tailored to suit the requirements of the Nissen hut frame.
Our thermodynamic modeling guided us in achieving the ideal balance between heat retention and preventing overheating. Hemp adds significant thermal mass, smoothing out temperature fluctuations typical of lightweight construction. This helps reduce the heating energy demand and, in turn, lowers the upfront cost of mechanical systems.
It’s a fabric-first approach, prioritising the building envelope for long-term efficiency and sustainability!
