Project Update
Planning Granted in La Marche, Italy
Planning approval has been secured for the rebuild of this enchanting Italian farmhouse, set amid the rolling hills of Le Marche, Italy.
At the project outset we took drone footage captured the stunning site and the ruined farmhouse, offering a unique bird’s-eye view of the Le Marche landscape. The footage highlights the relationship between the existing structure and its surroundings, providing valuable insight into the scale, topography, and potential for transformation. These visuals have been key in shaping our design approach and understanding the site’s context as we begin this exciting restoration journey, marking the start of bringing this historic site back to life.
We’ve worked closely with our clients to develop a thoughtful concept design, collaborating with a local architect to revitalize this historic property. Below, you’ll find some of our early layout studies, where we explored various internal arrangements and the relationship between the main house and the ancillary courtyard building. These studies helped establish a clear hierarchy of uses, ensuring the spaces work seamlessly together while respecting the farmhouse’s traditional character.
Navigating the rigorous planning and earthquake safety requirements has been both a challenge and a privilege, reinforcing the project’s foundations—both literally and conceptually. We’re thrilled to see this vision transition from paper to reality as it begins its next chapter on-site. Stay tuned for more updates!

Concept Sketchbook
Here are some examples of our concept sketchwork, showcasing a range of landscaping ideas for the garden, courtyard, pool, and ancillary building. Our aim has been to craft a design that seamlessly integrates the historic architecture with its natural surroundings. These sketches form a vital part of the creative process, enabling us to explore layouts, materials, and the interplay between built and natural elements.
We considered the approach from the road, the arrival sequence, and the central role of the courtyard as the heart of the site. The sketches reflect a vision of serenity and connection, with the courtyard imagined as a welcoming space that anchors the site. Ideas include natural stone paving softened with lush planting to create a fluid boundary between hardscape and greenery, encouraging a sense of harmony and flow.
The pool’s location was carefully studied to balance accessibility, views, and privacy while maintaining a dialogue with the architecture. Surrounding the pool, we explored options for planting and hardscaping to create a tranquil retreat.
This iterative process ensures every detail is thoughtfully considered, resulting in a landscape that enhances the experience of the site while celebrating its historic character
