We were approached by a leading London restaurateur to conceptualize a groundbreaking off-grid, zero-waste, field-to-table restaurant and events space. Our design philosophy for this project reflects its core values, creating a harmonious blend of sustainability, efficiency, and adaptability.
This bold vision transforms the idea of sustainable dining into a tangible, innovative, and environmentally harmonious experience. Stay tuned for the next steps on this journey!
Here’s how:
1. No Concrete or Steel
The structure eliminates the use of concrete and steel in favour of a timber frame, ensuring a truly zero-carbon approach.
2. Engineered Timber
Lightweight composite timber elements maximise efficiency, using material only where necessary to minimise waste while honouring timber’s natural beauty and sustainability.
3. Structurally Efficient A-Frame Design
The iconic A-frame shape reduces material demand and construction costs while enhancing strength and durability.
4. Modular Flexibility
The single structural module adapts seamlessly to different configurations, offering flexibility and cost-effectiveness without design compromise.
5. Removable Screw Pile Foundations
To preserve the natural landscape, the structure uses removable foundations that minimise ground disturbance.
6. Disassembly
The modular system allows the restaurant to be disassembled and relocated, supporting adaptability for future ventures.
7. 95% Compostable
Predominantly composed of biomass materials such as timber, straw, and hemp, the building can return to the earth with minimal environmental impact at its end of life.
8. Fabric First
With high insulation and thermal efficiency, energy demands are minimized, reducing reliance on mechanical systems like solar PV and heat pumps.
9. No Toxins
Natural, toxin-free materials ensure a healthy, breathable indoor environment, aligned with both human and ecological well-being.
