The Nissen Hut – I-Joists

Our Passivhaus-standard new build Nissen Hut is taking shape with the erection of the bespoke I-joist timber frame by Buckland Timber. Each I-joist is formed in a large press, using thin inner and outer timber rails connected by an OSB flange. The advantage of I-joists lies in their efficiency—they use significantly less timber than mass timber construction, which is crucial in ensuring the responsible use of our natural resources. Additionally, I-joists eliminate cold bridges, contributing to a more efficient and thermally consistent building envelope.
