This is my second project with Outpost, and they have created my own little oasis in the heart of London.

Introduction

Portland Road was originally built in the 1850s by speculative developers, situated on a strip of land between the affluent Ladbroke Estate to the east and the Norland Estate to the west. These charming houses in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea are part of the Norland Conservation Area.

The original character of the house has been carefully restored, maintaining the traditional feel of this narrow-plan home. The design preserves the existing original features while incorporating a setback roof terrace garden to enhance the living space, blending historical charm with modern living.

Plan

Second Floor

At roof level, you step out onto an oasis of greenery and planting, offering a private sanctuary where you can sit and immerse yourself in nature. This tranquil space creates a seamless connection to the outdoors, allowing you to enjoy both the peace of the plants and the serenity of the surroundings.
