The House of 2030 does not look different from houses of the past or present

We are delighted that we have been shortlisted as one of the final six architects for the national Home of 2030 competition to look at how we meet our future housing needs in conjunction with our binding commitment to meet Net Zero.

The House of 2030 does not look different from houses of the past or present, but it will need to be radically different in how it performs as a building in order to be a comfortable, healthy environment to live in, and to address the serious environmental challenges we face. The Janus House is designed with traditional biomass materials and construction techniques, used in modern and innovative ways, which result in a zero waste and carbon positive design.

Our submission brings together a small team of leading experts within industry, academia and practice who have been at the forefront of research, design development and the implementation of sustainable built environment and landscape design. The team is brought together by the shared belief that the solutions to the key challenges outlined in the brief already exist and are proven to be simple, easily implementable, economically viable and also hugely desirable. The challenge lies in shifting deeply engrained industry standards by demonstrating the advantages to both the industry and end users.
