Passivhaus Principals
Passivhaus is a globally recognised building standard that takes a holistic, whole-building approach, encompassing all phases from initial design to execution. It sets clear, measurable performance targets and is supported by a rigorous quality assurance certification process.
The key principles of Passivhaus include:
- High levels of insulation
- High-performance windows and doors
- Thermal bridge-free construction
- Airtight building fabric
- Mechanical ventilation with efficient heat recovery
For retrofitting existing buildings, a reduced version of the standard, known as EnerPHit, is available.
While the Passivhaus standard is demanding and may not always be achievable, we aim to incorporate its principles wherever feasible. This approach helps us balance performance goals with the unique needs of each project, including construction budgets, design limitations, and the client’s preferences for building use.
We engage with clients at the outset of each project to collaboratively review these decisions. Together, we aim to determine the best approach for achieving their goals, whether working with new construction or adapting existing buildings.
