Connecting

The studio thinks about connectedness on many levels, from the importance of understanding the contexts for which we’re designing, to proactively engaging with the people who commission or interact with our work. Concern for how we relate activity back to the natural world runs through everything that the studio does.

Within our architecture, interiors, products and furniture this concern is addressed through what we believe is, simply, good practice. Sustainable land use is an agenda that engages holistically with the properties of a site and balances the human needs with environmental resources such as land, water and biodiversity. Locally sourced natural materials and manufacturing can offer
environmental and cost benefits, as well as a continuity of language and traditions. Similarly, in revisiting well-established domestic models, we can find new relevance to living requirements today. For example, larder provision in a house for cool food storage that takes reliance off electrical refrigeration, and access to shed/workshop spaces for making and repairing over replacing.
